The lira in ancient myths was a gift from Hermes to Apollo, to calm down his brother, since Hermes had stolen his cattle! Not only Hermes is one of my favorite gods I also love the lira! The paintings from Velázquez helped me too, especially the Apollo in The Forge of Vulcan.
